CLA London Branch invites you to meet Professor Jonathan Jones

Join us at our April London Branch event to hear from Professor Jonathan Jones FRS. He will be talking with CLA Vice President, Victoria Vyvyan, about seizing 21st century opportunities for crop genetic improvement.

Professor Jonathan Jones is a senior scientist at the Sainsbury Laboratory in Norwich. His interest is in how plants resist disease. Professor Jones uses molecular and genetic approaches to explore how resistance is overcome by pathogens.

Prominent in this field for many years Professor Jones wants to, 'See all crop improvement methods make the best possible contribution to addressing the enormous challenge of sustainable-food-in-the-context-of climate-change, for which we need more science not less.'

As a starter for ten - his research has found Solanum americanum – the ancestor of the widespread UK wild plant black nightshade – to be “an excellent source” of late blight-resistant genes.

The event will run as a Zoom webinar. The joining instructions will be sent out 24 hours in advance of the event. If you wish to pose a question to Professor Jones you can do so via the Zoom Q&A function on the day or email it in advance to events@cla.org.uk
