In 1980, 34 growers joined together to form the Pembrokeshire Potato Marketing Group, but since these humble beginnings, the business now employs 150 staff at their Withybush headquarters. 400,000 tons of Welsh potatoes are processed and packed every year!
Puffin Produce look to innovate and grow in a sustainable manner to ensure the longevity of their business and environment in the future. Being part of the ‘Courtauld 2020’ agreement they use the ‘Cool Farm Tool’ on their farms and source 95% of their energy from renewable sources. Puffin Produce also work to reduce waste on site throughout their production processes.
Members will meet at The Pembrokeshire Show Pavilion on the County Showground before we enjoy a guided tour around the Puffin Produce processing factory. We will hear from Managing Director Huw Thomas about how the business has grown from its start as a marketing group in 1980 under the name of ‘Atlantic Puffin’. Huw will share the challenges they have faced over the years and the rapid growth experienced by a company that now supplies Welsh potatoes and vegetables to its many satisfied customers, as well as always looking for future business opportunities in a rapidly changing world.
A buffet lunch will be served at the Pembrokeshire Show Pavilion following the AGM.
