A visit to Rhug Estate & M&M & North Wales AGM

This year we are delighted to be visiting Rhug Estate, Corwen where we will learn how the estate has diversified and grown it's business portfolio over the years and how it is looking to the future to other new markets. Lord Newborough will make a welcome address and introduce us to Rhug Estate.

By kind invitation of Lord Newborough this years Meirionnydd & Montgomeryshire Branch and North Wales Branch will come together for a joint visit to the renowned Rhug Estate. During the day, Members will hear about recent developments on the estate and be given an insight into the very successful business model that has seen the business go from strength to strength.  There will be a tour of the estate on trailers and an opportunity to explore the wide range of business projects and initiatives that make the Rhug estate such a recognisable brand in Wales.  .

Lord Newborough’s ‘Mission Statement’ for the Rhug estate is to strive for a more sustainable future and this vision has seen the conversion of the farm to organic, the addition of a large portfolio of renewable energy projects, and continued support for local Welsh produce – we will learn more about how this Mission statement has influenced decisions and the direction of the business.

During the day we will learn about some of the current estate projects and markets including the residential stable yard development, the introduction of Japanese sika deer (Cervus Nippon), the successful pheasant shoot and the large hydro project.

We will also hear about the exciting new plans being considered at The Rhug including exploring new markets such as, growing daffodils for pharmaceuticals, skin care, use of moorland for natural capital, and adding value to renewables.
