CLA North: Allerton Waste Recovery Park visit

Allerton Waste Recovery Park brings together state-of-the-art technologies to make the most of rubbish from homes in York and North Yorkshire.

It's been open since March 2018 and is operated by Amey on behalf of North Yorkshire County Council and the City of York Council.

The new facility is reducing the amount of household waste going to landfill in the county by 90%. Diverting this waste away from landfill means we can use it to generate enough energy to power the equivalent of 40,000 homes.

The visit will include an overview of Allerton Waste Recovery Park, which processes around 320,000 tonnes of waste per year, followed by a site tour, which includes the mechanical treatment hall and energy from waste control room.

Visitors will be given protective clothing to wear on arrival for the tour as per the guidance notes attached to the right.

Numbers for this visit are strictly limited and so early booking is recommended.  However we are more than prepared to arrange a second visit should the need arise.
