North Lodge Farm is a 1,000 acre estate on the Nottinghamshire/Leicestershire border, home of Chris & Julia Butterfield and family since 2005. The landscape is a delightful mix of wold farmland and permanent pasture along with mature hedgerows, in-field and hedgerow trees, woodlands, watercourses and ponds. Countryside Stewardship options include wide field margins and game/wild bird covers. The livery yards accommodate up to 40 horses in modern stables with exercise facilities,an all-weather school and tack rooms. Energy needs are met by a bio-mass facility and solar PV, and water from rainwater harvesting.
The Estate’s priority has been to maintain a commercially viable farming operation with diversified income sufficient to support rural employment and the family’s recreational and conservation interests.
Now two-thirds arable, the balance is given over to conservation and environmental activities including a small family shoot, beekeeping, alpacas, Dexter cattle, Rushcliffe Barn Owl Project monitoring and annual field trials. In recent times the Estate has hosted both a county fair and a classical concert in support of local charities.
